Why Bonadio? Hear From Our People

October 31st, 2022

The employee experience: this isn’t a new phrase, but it’s certainly gained popularity over the last few years as the workforce looks to find deeper meaning in the careers they pursue and the companies they choose to work for. At TBG, we pride ourselves on creating an unparalleled employee experience in line with our People’s values, needs and priorities. But don’t take our word for it – hear what our dedicated and talented professionals have to say!

In our “Why Bonadio?” series, we highlight our employee’s personal experiences with our firm. In this post, hear from Kevin West, Tax Principal who joined Bonadio five years ago, about what makes TBG truly unique.

The Bonadio Group

Back in 2017 as he was looking to relocate back to Rochester, Kevin was searching for a firm that would not only allow him to grow and develop professionally, but one where he could be true to himself. Having worked in retail/customer service well before getting a degree in accounting, Kevin has a “non-traditional” background. After receiving his degree, he worked at both Big 4 and regional firms.

Now, Kevin serves as a Tax Principal at TBG, working primarily on multi-state passthroughs with a concentration in the professional services industry. He is also a lead for the Firm’s Council for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DE&I).

“From my first interactions with the firm, I found the people to be warm and welcoming. During my onsite interview I asked to speak to an experienced staff member to hear firsthand their experience with the firm. This wasn’t scheduled, they didn’t question why, they just understood it was important to me. Without hesitation I was introduced to one of the seniors in the department and was able to have a candid conversation with him before I left the interview,” said Kevin.

He furthered, “For me, this really spoke to the overall culture of the firm and when I received the offer a few days later, it was a no brainer.”

During his time at TBG, Kevin has worked with numerous clients and has been able to direct his own career, seek guidance and learn from many people at all different levels, share ideas and concerns, and more. “I’ve always felt as though I am heard and that my input is appreciated. And while change doesn’t happen immediately, I continue to see the firm grow and the people develop, and I am excited for the future,” said Kevin.

Along the way, Kevin developed a passion for DE&I. When he initially approached leadership to discuss what the firm was doing regarding DE&I, they shared there had been discussion and planning, but also asked for input. Kevin shared his experiences and ideas, and soon after, a team of 40+ members across all offices and practices was developed. Three years (and a pandemic) later, and the DE&I Council continues to lead initiatives that foster a diverse and welcoming atmosphere, enabling everyone to feel empowered, valued, respected and safe.

“I am continually amazed by the efforts of these individuals and the accomplishments we have achieved. It’s also nice to know that if I say “as a gay male” I don’t have to fear that people will stop listening. This is all made possible by the culture that has been embedded into the firm by our Founder and maintained by our People.”
