The Bonadio Group Partners with RIT to Launch Unique Data Analytics Project

Rochester, N.Y., February 10, 2022 – The Bonadio Group, a nationally ranked Top 50 CPA firm, has partnered with Saunders College of Business at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) to fund a collaborative research project. This grant, which will be awarded annually for the next three years, will allow RIT students to work with Bonadio on a full data analytics project with the support of RIT faculty.

In 2019, The Bonadio Group implemented a data-driven approach to identify factors that accompany employee turnover, and quickly realized outside expertise would be needed to sort through the data. As a result, the firm proposed a new model for academic and industry collaboration and formed a partnership with RIT to gain both access to students in the industry, while also providing them with invaluable experience.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with The Bonadio Group to bring this research project to life over the next several years,” said Saunders College Dean Jacqueline Mozrall. “Not only will our students have the opportunity to work with real-life data sets, but their findings will have real-world implications for one of the top CPA firms in the country.”

The idea behind this research fund is to create a strategic research initiative that narrows the scope of a project down to a specific use case.

“Most collaborative research programs involve faculty or student research that is so broad, which means the findings are interesting but not necessarily directly applicable to actual business challenges,” said John Roman, CIO, The Bonadio Group. “While this initiative will benefit the students who will gain real-world experience, it’s also hugely beneficial to our firm since the results will be directly related to our strategic initiatives and the operational challenges we face.”

The findings from this project will serve as the basis for future efforts aimed at reducing turnover and increasing retention at The Bonadio Group. Additionally, this study will help develop a model for monitoring risk factors and for early detection and prevention of turnover.

Students and faculty are currently in the process of applying for the grant, with the goal of selecting awardees in May of 2022. The selected students and faculty will work on the data project throughout the summer and look to present results to The Bonadio group in late Fall/early Winter.
