A Day in the Life Series: Bonadio Advisory & Consulting

October 8th, 2025

Welcome back to our “A Day in the Life” series, where we’re spotlighting what it’s like to be a team member in each of our client-facing service lines: Small Business Advisory (SBA), Tax, Assurance, and Bonadio Advisory & Consulting (BAC).

At TBG, our BAC service line offers a diverse range of opportunities for professionals who want to make an impact across industries. BAC is made up of several specialized areas, each with unique career paths:

  • Advisory Services: Work with clients on projects in fraud and forensics, healthcare consulting, internal audit, strategic advisory, and transportation advisory.
  • Bonadio Corporate Finance: Support clients through investment banking, transaction advisory, and M&A advisory services.
  • FoxPointe Solutions: Dive into the world of IT and cybersecurity, offering services such as compliance consulting, vCISO, IT audits, penetration testing, and IT strategy.
  • Outsource Accounting: Provide cloud-based, real-time back-office solutions, helping companies, organizations, and entrepreneurs run their businesses with confidence.

Whether you’re drawn to finance, technology, strategy, or hands-on consulting, BAC gives you the chance to build your skills, take on meaningful work, and make a real impact for our clients.

What makes BAC Unique?

BAC stands out for its project-based work and deep client relationships across industries. From supporting nonprofits with financial operations to conducting cybersecurity audits and investigating fraud, BAC professionals serve as trusted advisors, helping organizations navigate complex challenges.

Tim Ball, BAC Service Line Leader, explains, “You learn quickly that every project you are assigned will include problem solving and learning on the job. BAC is a fast-paced consulting team that works on new and unique projects every day.”

“One day you might be working on a loan portfolio for a bank, the next you’re reviewing a cost report for a nursing home, and the next you’re sitting in on a forensic interview of a possible white-collar criminal,” he added.

Tim emphasizes that this variety not only keeps the work engaging, but it also fosters rapid professional growth. “We expect our professionals to learn by doing,” he adds. “Because our projects are often so unique, we want them to embrace the feeling of not knowing exactly how to do something and taking the right steps to figure it out.”

A Typical Day in BAC

Daily, the BAC team at TBG delivers high-impact, project-based solutions tailored to each client’s unique needs. Whether it’s conducting audits, supporting financial operations, or investigating fraud, no two days are the same. Here’s a glimpse into what a typical day might look like for a BAC professional:

  • Client Touchpoints & Collaboration: BAC professionals often begin their day by checking in with their team and connecting with clients. Maintaining strong relationships is key, especially since much of the work is project-based and relies on trust and communication.
  • Technical Audits & Risk Assessments: For Deb Bond, Consulting Manager at FoxPointe Solutions, a typical day includes conducting technical interviews for ISO 27001 and PCI DSS audits, analyzing evidence, and drafting audit reports. Deb shares, “I work mostly with small to mid-sized businesses and nonprofits, and I truly value the relationships I’ve built with each of them.”
  • Operational Support for Nonprofits: Kate Freemantle, Principal within our Outsource Accounting and Finance team, works closely with nonprofit organizations, supporting their financial operations. “We help clients with daily workflows like accounts payable and accounts receivable, along with financial reporting, forecasting, and budgeting—all through cloud-based financial systems,” she explains.
  • Fraud Investigation & Efficiency Consulting: Joshua Bills, Principal within our Advisory team, often works with governments, nonprofits, and businesses recovering from fraud or seeking to improve operational efficiency. “We’re retained to investigate fraud, assist with litigation, and help clients strengthen internal controls to prevent future issues,” he says.
  • Relationship Building: Joshua also emphasizes the importance of being personable. “Being outgoing goes a long way in BAC. We’re often working side-by-side with clients, and building trust is essential to our success.”

Making a Meaningful Impact

Perhaps the most rewarding part of working in BAC is knowing that the work goes far beyond spreadsheets and reports, it drives real change in the communities we serve.

BAC professionals truly make a difference through helping nonprofits modernize their financial systems, guiding businesses through frauds investigation, advising healthcare organizations on operational improvements, and so much more. “It might look like we’re accountants from the outside,” says Tim, “but we actually partner with our clients to help them achieve their highest potential. It’s extremely rewarding to be part of so many organizations’ success in the communities we live in.”

At TBG, BAC professionals don’t just consult, they collaborate, innovate, and empower clients to grow, adapt, and thrive.

Is BAC Right for You?

A career in BAC is all about curiosity, adaptability, and a love for solving problems. At TBG, our BAC team works in a collaborative environment where learning never stops and building strong client relationships matters. If you’re looking for a role where you can make an impact, grow your skills, and be part of a team that’s dedicated to helping organizations succeed, the BAC Service Line could be the perfect fit for you.
