At The Bonadio Group, we value community involvement and have distinguished ourselves as a philanthropic leader in our communities. Our People volunteer their time and money to benefit non-profit organizations year-round. Between May 2021 and May 2022, our firm collectively volunteered over 10,000 hours at nonprofit and/or community organizations and contributed over $1.4 million between firm and Partner donations. Additionally, TBG has partnered with numerous charitable organizations including St. Catherine’s Center for Children, Niagara County SPCA, VISIONS/Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired, Foodlink, Utica Zoo, and more.
Purpose Day
For five consecutive years now, employees from The Bonadio Group have joined together for the firm’s annual Purpose Day to donate their time to local non-profit organizations. Each of The Bonadio Group’s offices, across New York State and beyond, close for the day to ensure all employees have the opportunity to participate and give back to a worthy cause. During this year’s Purpose Day, which occurred on August 5, 2022, over 560 employees from across TBG’s footprint volunteered at more than 25 regional and national organizations.
Kelsey Dempsey, Manager in our Health Care Tax Exempt department, has been an integral part of the firm’s community involvement efforts, including Purpose Day. “From interns to Partners, each employee volunteers their time to make a difference – from building furniture at a home for those with developmental disabilities, or cleaning and organizing a homeless shelter, or even discussing career opportunities and conducting mock interviews for individuals with disabilities,” said Dempsey.
“It’s amazing to see our company come together to support these organizations and build stronger bonds with the people of our local communities.”
The Big Give
This year, TBG launched a new program in conjunction with Purpose Day called The Big Give. This program provides an opportunity for employees to volunteer at local non-profit organizations of their choosing throughout the month of August. For each hour an individual spends volunteering, The Bonadio Foundation will award that organization a cash grant. Overall, this program will build upon Purpose Day and have an even larger impact on our local and national communities.
“Working for a company that rewards volunteerism is a huge moral boost and encourages employees to make their own impact on organizations that are meaningful to them,” added Kelsey.
Individual Impact
As a firm, TBG also encourages employees to volunteer outside dedicated firm-wide efforts. Employees are offered benefits and perks, such as work from home flexibility and unlimited PTO, to allow them time to engage within the community. In 2019, Bonadio established the Bonadio Cares Award, which is given to one individual each year who is actively living out the Bonadio Purpose in their personal life. The 2022 Bonadio Cares Award Winner, Wendy Riccelli, volunteers as a sexual assault advocate at Vera House, which is a non-profit organization that provides crisis support for victims of domestic, sexual, and elder abuse. They provide counseling, advocacy, training and education, shelter, and community coordination with other programs. This often includes emergency shelter to ensure individuals are safe from the threat of violence.
“To me, Bonadio Purpose means having a positive impact in the community through things like acts of kindness, generosity, service, teamwork. I believe that if we want to have that kind of culture within a business, it starts with ourselves as individuals with the words and actions that we do,” said Wendy.
Wendy, along with so many other employees, have found meaningful causes to dedicate their time and resources, fulfilling the Bonadio Purpose in their own unique way.
