Why Relationships Still Matter: A Rochester Leader’s Perspective on Client Service

By Aimee Jozic, on September 30th, 2026

The professional services landscape looks very different today than it did when I joined The Bonadio Group more than 21 years ago.

Having spent more than two decades serving organizations throughout the Rochester region and beyond, I’ve seen firsthand how much our business community has evolved. Technology has transformed how we work. Clients have access to more information than ever before. Businesses face increasingly complex challenges, from cybersecurity and regulatory changes to workforce concerns and growth opportunities. Meanwhile, the number of firms, tools, and solutions competing for attention continues to grow.

Yet despite all that has changed, one thing has remained remarkably consistent: relationships still matter. In fact, I would argue they matter more than ever.

The Value of Knowing Your Story

One of the things I’m most proud of throughout my career is that many of the clients and colleagues I worked with early on are still part of my professional life today. I believe there is tremendous value in that continuity.

When you’ve worked alongside an organization for years, you develop an understanding that goes beyond financial statements, tax returns, or compliance requirements. You learn their history, their goals, their challenges, and the people behind the business. You understand what has worked in the past, what lessons were learned along the way, and where opportunities may exist moving forward.

Many of the organizations we serve in the Rochester region have been cornerstones of the community for generations. When you have that level of history and perspective, every conversation starts from a place of understanding rather than introduction.

That institutional knowledge allows advisors to provide more meaningful guidance because every conversation starts from a place of understanding rather than introduction.

For clients, that means they spend less time bringing new advisors up to speed and more time focusing on the future.

Growth Doesn’t Have to Come at the Expense of Personal Service

As firms grow, clients sometimes worry that relationships will become less personal. It’s a fair concern, especially in an industry where consolidation continues to reshape the marketplace.

What I’ve found at The Bonadio Group is that growth can actually enhance the client experience when it’s approached thoughtfully.

Over the years, we’ve expanded our capabilities, added specialized expertise, invested in new technologies, and strengthened our presence across multiple markets. Those investments provide clients with access to resources and insights that many organizations simply couldn’t access on their own.

At the same time, our commitment to personalized service hasn’t changed.

Clients still work directly with experienced professionals who know their organizations, understand their goals, and are invested in their success. The difference is that those professionals now have an even broader network of specialists and resources behind them.

Balancing Innovation with Human Connection

Technology continues to create exciting opportunities across our profession. Today’s tools can help us analyze data faster, automate routine processes, uncover trends, and provide insights that would have been difficult to identify years ago. Those advancements create significant value for clients and help us deliver services more efficiently and effectively.

But technology is only one part of the equation.

The most important conversations still happen between people. Strategic decisions still require judgment, experience, and perspective. Businesses still need trusted advisors who can help navigate uncertainty and provide guidance when the answers aren’t always obvious.

Innovation should strengthen relationships, not replace them.

This mindset allows us to do the best of both: embrace new capabilities while continuing to prioritize the human connections that build trust.

The Benefit of an Independent, Partner-Led Firm

Another advantage I believe clients value is the fact that The Bonadio Group remains an independent, partner-led firm.

In a marketplace where private equity investment and consolidation continue to reshape the profession, our independence allows us to make decisions based on what’s best for our clients, our people, and the communities we serve. Because we’re partner-led, the people guiding the firm’s strategy are deeply invested in both our long-term success and the success of our clients.

We have the ability to focus on sustainable growth, meaningful client relationships, and investments that create lasting value, rather than short-term priorities.

That perspective influences how we invest in our people, our technology, our service offerings, and our communities.

Looking Ahead

When I reflect on the past 21 years, what stands out most isn’t how much the profession has changed, but instead how many meaningful relationships have endured through that change.

I’ve had the privilege of working alongside clients in the Rochester region and beyond through periods of growth, challenge, succession, expansion, and transformation. I’ve watched colleagues build incredible careers and become trusted leaders in our firm and our community. Those long-term relationships are not just a reflection of longevity. They’re a reflection of trust.

As the business landscape continues to evolve, I believe the organizations that thrive will be those that combine innovation with experience, specialized expertise with personal service, and growth with a commitment to lasting relationships.

At The Bonadio Group, that’s the approach we’ve taken for decades, and it’s one we’ll continue to build on for years to come.
