Building Industry Experts from Within: The Future of Learning at TBG

November 20th, 2025

In early 2023, The Bonadio Group (TBG) embarked on one a significant transformation that realigned our operating structure to better serve clients’ evolving needs and drive sustainable, strategic growth.

Our new model emphasizes eight key industries: Public Sector & Not-for-Profit, Service Providers, Human Services, Healthcare Services, Financial Services, Manufacturing & Distribution, Construction & Real Estate, and Private Wealth. These industries are supported by four key service lines: Advisory & Consulting, Assurance, Tax, and Small Business Advisory.

This intentional focus allows us to deliver deeper expertise, more personalized guidance, and holistic solutions tailored to each client’s unique challenges.

“We are constantly seeking ways to exceed industry standards – not only pertaining to the quality of the work we deliver to clients, but the way we lead, collaborate, and work together effectively as a team,” said Bruce Zicari, CEO of The Bonadio Group.

Aligning People Development with Firm Strategy

As our firm’s structure evolved, so did our approach to Learning & Development. While redefining how we serve clients was a key part of the shift, we also prioritized investing in our people’s development.

Allyson Roote, Vice President of Learning & Development, explains, “Our goal is to move beyond simply attending training programs. Through Bonadio University, we’re designing experiences that have a real impact, allowing us to develop stronger leaders, better communicators, and professionals with the confidence and specialized knowledge to thrive in their industries.”

This philosophy is driving several major L&D initiatives that align with the firm’s industry focus, including:

  • Industry-specific learning tracks: Collaborating with industry leaders to develop targeted curriculum that deepens technical and business understanding across our eight sectors.
  • Leadership development programs: Moving from passive learning to immersive development experiences designed to create meaningful growth beyond the classroom.
  • A culture of coaching: Launching a firmwide pilot this fall focused on empowering leaders to coach and support others, fostering continuous growth and collaboration.
  • Enhanced onboarding: Partnering with HR to revamp the new hire experience so employees gain early exposure to our industries and service lines, helping them feel connected and equipped from day one.
  • Self-study and professional development strategies: Encouraging ongoing, self-directed learning that complements formal training and supports individualized career goals, including the introduction of the Amplifire adaptive learning platform. Piloted across the firm this summer, Amplifire focuses on building true mastery through personalized learning. A one-hour course may take one person 40 minutes and another 20, yet both receive full CPE credit based on demonstrated mastery. While not all learning will move into Amplifire, this innovative platform has the potential to significantly modernize and enhance how we develop expertise.

Developing Industry Specialists & Future Leaders

By combining a clear strategic structure with a robust learning framework, TBG is intentionally shaping a culture where professionals truly understand the context behind their work and the work of our clients.

Whether it’s helping a healthcare organization manage regulatory change, guiding a manufacturer through expansion, or advising a not-for-profit on financial sustainability, our teams are positioned to deliver value that’s grounded in both technical excellence and real-world industry insight.

“Our professionals are the foundation of this strategy,” Roote said. “We aim to empower them to build their expertise and leadership, so they can advance their careers while simultaneously elevating the client experience.”

As we continue to refine and expand our learning programs, our focus remains on building a team that is adaptable, insightful, and deeply attuned to the industries we serve.

The transformation of our firm’s structure has opened the door to new opportunities for growth, both for our clients and our people. Through intentional investment in L&D, we are ensuring that each and every one of our professionals has the tools, resources, and support to become a trusted advisor and a true industry expert.
