Recognizing Young Leaders in Public Accounting: Moore North America’s Emerging Leader Award

March 22nd, 2024

For the third consecutive year, Moore North America has honored up-and-coming leaders through their Emerging Leader Award. This award shines a spotlight on rising stars in the public accounting industry, recognizing their outstanding accomplishments and the value they bring to their community. We are excited to share that our own, Kelsey Dempsey, Principal in the Assurance Service Line, was recognized as one of five 2024 award recipients!

Among Kelsey’s many accomplishments are her participation in Moore North America’s inaugural Leadhership1 Program, the creation and implementation of The Big Give, and her recent promotion to Principal.

Kelsey is the second TBG employee to receive this honor, following Laura Meyers, Director of Corporate Communications, who was one of the 2022 award recipients. “There are so many benefits to pursuing a career in this field, and recognizing people who are finding success is a great way to highlight those benefits,” shared Laura.

Each of this year’s five award recipients has been invited to attend the upcoming Moore North America 2024 Conference in Nashville, Tennessee, where they’ll be honored at an awards ceremony and have the opportunity to connect with peers and other industry professionals from around the world. Additionally, one winner will be selected from those five to receive a scholarship to the Dynamic Growth Academy Cohort 8.

The Role of Mentorship & Support

Kelsey attributes much of her success to the constant support she has received from the firm and from her mentors over the years. “Firm leadership and my colleagues have consistently provided me with opportunities to make a meaningful impact. Whether through client services, new responsibilities, developing new events and programs, or even from a personal standpoint, their support has been unwavering. They have always respected my time with my family and children, ensuring I never work on Saturday mornings, even during our busiest seasons,” she shared.

In recognition of Kelsey’s exemplary professional achievements and volunteer service, Kristen Clark, Chief Risk Officer, nominated her for this award.

“Kelsey exemplifies all that we envision in our TBG motto, “To Be Greater.” She mentors others, and is phenomenal at client service, but beyond that, she is a leader who truly understands our purpose-driven culture,” shared Kristen.

Partner within our Healthcare Services Industry, Aimee Jozic, also played a pivotal role in Kelsey’s career as one of her key mentors.

“Aimee is not only an amazing partner and leader at the firm, but she is an amazing person. She has always supported my growth and learning as a young professional by providing opportunities to try new things and take on stretch tasks,” said Kelsey. “I admire how she is able to manage her career and family, being that she is a partner and mom of three! She is truly someone I can always count on when I need guidance both personally and professionally and I certainly would not be where I am today without her.”

Advice for Aspiring Leaders

Kelsey encourages young aspiring leaders to take advantage of every opportunity and challenge. “Those are the moments you grow the most,” she noted.

She also urges young women in the public accounting profession to just dive in and try new things. “You truly won’t know whether or not you can do something unless you try! We see so many young women who are afraid to stay in public accounting long term as they don’t think they can manage a successful career and family—I am here to tell you that you absolutely can!” added Kelsey.

Recognizing young professionals and aspiring leaders is crucial for fostering growth, innovation, and sustainability in the public accounting industry. At TBG, we are committed to both supporting and recognizing our young professionals as they continue to excel and inspire others in their journey towards leadership and excellence.
